The Ardler Village Trust opened a charity shop to generate a financial surplus for the AVT’s charitable activities.
• The aim of the shop is to provide local residents with a source of affordable clothing, household goods and leisure goods.
• Running the shop provides training, information and confidence building opportunities for local residents
The Ardler Village Trust opened the doors to it’s charity shop on the 3rd September 2008, supported by The Big Lottery Fund, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association, Bentleys Shopfitters, and a loyal band of local volunteers.
The charity shop is a community based “not for profit” organisation meeting the specific aims of the Trust and the local community.
The key to the shops success continues to be the team of dedicated volunteers that run the shop. We currently have around 10 volunteers who put in between 3 and 8 hours per week. It’s a good, fun team that welcomes new enthusiastic members.
If you would like to help out to gain experience or to help our community then please drop in to the shop at 95 Turnberry Avenue or phone 831712. Please also make yourself aware of our Volunteering Handbook and our Application Form
Update on Achievements
To date the shop has raised over £100,000 which has contributed to several local projects including seating, the local Newsletter, Fundays, Easter Events, Big Days Out and Christmas Lights Events.
Proceeds from the shop have also been used to support other local groups and organisations, including both St Fergus and Ardler Primary schools, the Ardler Chalmers Family project, Sidlaw House, and the Ardler Environment Group.
These organisations are at the heart of the community and it was the community who decides what should be supported. These groups and organisations are the very people that the money raised through the charity shop is meant to help.
The success of the shop is very much dependant on the support of the local community and as always the shop would like to thank all those people who have generously donated goods and purchase goods over the years and those who have volunteered their support. Please continue to support our shop so that we can continue to deliver and support local projects, groups and organisations.
